Just got this product a few days ago and just got done upgrading. At the office, we’ve gone to Windows 10 pro so I made the upgrade. How easy was it? I bought the item and it appeared in my digital orders folder.
I follow the instructions. I had upgraded PC before so I had done all of the usual stuff: 1 made plenty of room for the new OS on the C drive needs about 20 GB for the 64 bit version , 2 cleaned up the computer of temp files, junk and stuff, 3 made a backup and restore point, 4 located all of the old programs for a reinstall in case the upgrade didn’t work, so I thought I was ready.
It takes a LONG time to down load the actual system, the download program that does the work is a quick file – so don’t be impatient – it is longer than some movies run and your time may depend on the speed of your connection, and time of day, etc.
Next there are two options – do you want to upgrade the computer you just downloaded the download program to or do you want to create a USB drive and upgrade off of this? It will have the iso file with the upgrade BUT you can’t just copy to it, you have to use the program because it makes it a bootable USB drive.
To their credit the support people at Microsoft were helpful. The program hung up because it claimed the product key was invalid. After reaching the company and going over with them, they acknowledged the key was valid, and set to work – there is some glitch in the uploader program – we spent hours back and ultimately we got it to upgrade but then The video drivers won’t load Finally then do another install but choose the custom setting and pick the ones you need And it worked So, was it worth it?
I’m honestly not sure, but the program seems pretty stable so far. Since Windows 7 things have been OK – It looks like they are trying to create one common system for tablets, laptops and PCs.
Anyway – if you need for work – it is OK – but if you are not a real computer buff, and don’t need to upgrade, you might want to wait and see if they can sort out these upgrade issues. I went on line and it seems that there are some out there. The download is actually from Microsoft, although Amazon provides the key. There were zero install issues. About 2 minutes after I bought this product my version of Windows 10 Pro was activated. All I had to do was highlight the product key, copy and then paste in the Windows Activation box and press enter.
The Heading “Microsoft 10 Pro Download” is misleading. Amazon will only give you a product key and gives a hyperlink to a help page that tells you how to download the Windows 10 creation tool. It appears Amazon will keep a copy of the product key in your software and digital download section of your account.
To keep up to date with the Products Title, they should have done a hyperlink leading to the MediaCreationTool Updates may disable your startup. Fixes for known bugs often worse than the bugs. I have done computer IT support and troubleshooting for fifteen years and I can tell you, Microsoft’s drivers and hardware support software misses the mark time and again. If you cannot get a proper driver from your manufacturer’s website, your PC will get it from Microsoft’s Russian roulette. It’s a really good operating system. After 2 weeks, I love it. There is not much to be said about Windows 10, it’s been out long enough that virtually everyone knows it’s the best OS Microsoft has ever made. What made this a 5 star purchase for me was two things, the fact that I got it cheaper here then anywhere else granted not much cheaper but every penny counts.
The other thing that made this purchase experience so good for me is that I was able to get it right away. I had the free upgrade version from back when I bought Win 7 Pro a few years ago but that had a time limit and there is no reinstall option any more.
So when my C: drive crashed on me in the middle of the night, the only way to fix it quickly and move on was to buy and download a new separate more up to date version. Because I could do that things were back to normal more or less by the next morning. So if you need it right away without being charged more then necessary this is the option for you.

However, with Amazon I can use the points and get points for the purchases, so it was a little cheaper by buying using Amazon’s credit card. From different experiences posted online, it seems that getting those keys to work is simply a game of luck. Some of these keys are coming from people who are selling their key for cheap because they got it for cheap from various discounts.

Or better yet replace it with the actual software download and keys that people are actually trying to purchase. It is apparent from reading the ratings that many people do not understand this distinction and that what they are buying a 25 character alpha-numeric code for their money.
I agree that the written description on the Amazon site is woefully inadequate to insure that non-OS computer literate person will know what this purchase is to be used for.
Those who are very comfortable downloading OS software and knowing how to load that clean copy onto a computer – which may entail working with ISO files and creating bootable disks or thumb drives will be very happy. This authentication code is a genuine Microsoft product and works perfectly to authenticate the clean copy of Windows 10 on a computer. I strongly discourage novices from using this method of up dating an obsolete OS or old computer to Win A hardware enthusiast who builds their own homegrown computer may use this purchase to activate a copy of Win 10, but again, you need specialized knowledge to do that successfully and with minimal pain.
This knowledge is freely available on the internet by searching for topics like “Windows 10 downloads” “Windows 10 authentication” “How to load a clean copy of Windows 10” and other such key words. Even if you have never done this before, it is fairly easy to learn how to do so by doing your research on the internet. Now I’d like to explain a couple of things that Microsoft doesn’t tell you – and really doesn’t want you to understand during the installation. Traditionally prior to Windows 10 you installed in a way that Microsoft now calls a “Local Account”.
Now they want you to use the default install which is using a “Microsoft Account”. They say Windows runs better that way. Well, maybe, maybe not. Privacy advocates might suggest using a Local Account is the better option and that Windows 10 is way too intrusive.
I tend to agree. You should read online about the two options with a DuckDuckGo search to decide which is best for you. If you want to set up with a “Local Account”, you should really decide before installation. The reason is there is a bug that Microsoft has known about for over three years and has not fixed. This might be too technical for some, but at that point, it will truncate your user name in the Windows 10 system. So, if your email is Samuel at outlook. I believe that if you then use Word, or Excel, it will associate those documents with “sameu”, not “Samuel”.
You can do an Internet search to learn more. There is NO fix other than a clean reinstall. Ok, there is another if you are very technical.
To set up as a Local Account during your initial install, simply disconnect your wired desktop computer – unplug the Ethernet cable from the computer. With a laptop, you may need to turn your wireless off at your wireless router. Windows install will see you are offline and allow you to set up a Local Account. A Local Account setup will require you to create a password and 3 security questions all pretty basic. In my opinion, this will give you a smooth, clean traditional install.
In the past, you did not have to go through all this to set up a Local Account with Windows 10, they offered both options during the install.. Then continue to Windows Update and update the software. Then install third party security software, if you so desire. If you are less concerned about Privacy, and want everything preset for being in the Cloud, then the default install is probably your best bet.
That does not mean you cannot use online backup storage with a Local Account. If you are a Dell or other user with an older PC and after the Windows install it gets to the point when it says “Windows needs to restart to continue “rebooting in 10 seconds” and reboots to the first screen for the Windows install, eject your DVD and Reboot by clicking the Red X at the upper right hand corner of your screen.
It should boot from the Windows you just installed on your hard drive. The “rebooting in 10 seconds happens after Getting Files Ready Installing features Installing updates Finishing up” Finally, Windows 10 set up as a Local Account, is an “ok” operating system. There are bugs that need to be addressed – like setting up additional users on the PC without setting up Microsoft Accounts.
This has turned an otherwise very good operating system into one that is less usable and less safe. IMO, that has been intentional on Microsofts part. Windows 10 with a Microsoft Account is intrusive and I would rate as “poor”. Good luck. Very easy to install.
